Born February 25, 1947, in St. Augustine, Florida, Nord attended Florida State University as an Art Major. He dropped out to join the United States Navy in 1967. Due to his artistic background Nord was assigned to the Pacific Fleet Combat Camera Group. During the ensuing 4 years he was part of a four man team filming documentaries in Southeast Asia (Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan and Philippines).
After the Navy he worked at various jobs but the one which probably had the most influence on the direction his art would take was that of reproduction clerk for an architectural firm. The ammonia activated architectural prints on blueline and mylar allowed him to reproduce his artwork from originals drawn on vellum.
